A New Office for Our Team

As of August 1, 2018, SonicNet's team is located at 103 North Railroad Street in Eagle River.

Having outgrown our former office on Pine Street, we found just the right space for all of our equipment inventory and staff.

Moving isn't really very fun, but it does give us the opportunity to clean out, throw out and generally reorganize.  So, just like all the college kids getting ready to move into their new digs, this is our right of passage as we continue to grow and serve more customers with better internet and customer service than they thought possible in the North Woods.

Give us a few days to settle in, and then stop in for a visit and a cold beverage, and let us see what we can do for you.

Happy moving (did I say how much I hate moving???)!

SonicNet Receives Grant to Expand Service to Town of Plum Lake

We are happy to announce that we have been awarded a Wisconsin PSC Broadband Expansion Grant to build new towers in order to provide service in the Town of Plum Lake in Vilas County.

Even though there is still snow on the ground, plans are underway to build up to four new towers to provide coverage to most of the lakefront properties on Star Lake, Plum Lake, and some of the smaller lakes within the Town's boundaries.

We are in the process of securing sites suitable for these towers.

We encourage anyone with property in the Town of Plum Lake that is close to any of the lakes or groups of homes to contact us for a site evaluation.  Your neighbors will love you!

This area of Vilas County has been pretty much left out of recent telephone company wireline upgrades to their internet services, and we hear from residents that they need better options.  The PSC agreed, and this is an opportunity to provide fast, reliable internet connections for both year-round and summer residents in this beautiful part of the North Woods.

Live in the Town of Plum Lake?  We'd love to hear from you.  Let us know you want service.  We look forward to helping you get the connection you need.

Give us a call at 888-631-9666 or send us an email at info@sonicnet.us.  We're located in downtown Eagle River, and we are part of the greater North Woods community.

Happy (Almost) Spring!

If you're currently in the North Woods, you already know that it doesn't look anything at all like spring outside.  With 6-10 inches of new snow a couple of days ago, and a forecast for several more inches within 24 hours, it feels more like January than April.

But such is the weather in Northern Wisconsin and Upper Michigan, and those of us who have been around a while know that almost anything goes in April.

Thankfully, we at SonicNet have been planning all winter for our spring work, and we look forward to announcing some news just about the time our Snowbirds start coming back.

In the meantime, if you're a current SonicNet customer and want faster speeds, give us a ring at 888-631-9666, ext. 0, to find out what's available.  We made a lot of network upgrades last year, and we want to make sure you know about that.

If you're not in a SonicNet-covered area, let us know if you would like to be covered.  Did the DSL upgrade at your home in the past few months disappoint?  Let us know!  You are our best source of information when it comes to knowing where our services are most needed.

We compete very well with cable, fiber and DSL in many areas, so please give us a call to see what may be available for your family or business in 2018.  We look forward to hearing from you!

New Year, New Services

January 2018 is getting off to a really cold start, so it's the perfect time to enjoy the warmth of our office, a hot cup of tea, and reflect on our accomplishments of 2017 and look forward to 2018.

The past 18 months have been consumed with upgrades here at SonicNet.  After 10 years in business, some of our older network equipment needed some sprucing up.  Access points on towers, radios at customer premises and lots more upstream bandwidth coming into the network were all areas that we've improved in 2016 and 2017.  Much, much more bandwidth is being delivered to our tower sites and then on out to our customers' homes and businesses.

We encourage everyone to check our Services page for all our package options and speed levels.

In addition to network upgrades, our staff has been busy preparing to offer some new services that our customers have been requesting:  basic computer repair and property network design and installation.  If your computer is slow or you are getting lots of pop-ups, our technicians can help.  If you have multiple buildings on a property and need to have them connected, we can help.  Give us a call to learn more at 888-631-9666, ext. 0.

And looking forward, we are currently planning new coverage areas in Vilas County.  We'll announce those plans soon, and we can't wait to help more of our Northwoods neighbors get connected.

Why is broadband vital to the Northwoods economy?

When we started SonicNet in 2007, we knew the importance of fast, reliable Internet service for businesses.  We also knew that individuals needed to keep in touch with family and friends, and email was the predominant method then.  To a lot of folks at the time, the Internet was mostly a social tool and many found it unnecessary for home use.

Fast forward 10 years, and we not only rely on our Internet service at home and work, we carry it around with us in our pockets and handbags, even wear it on our wrists.  We're connected 24/7, whether we always like it or not.

What does that mean for business in northern Wisconsin and Upper Michigan?  It means that if we have that all-important high-speed connection at home, we can often work from home.

Jobs today are more online than ever before.  Everything from web designers, authors, social media consultants, and radiologists to medical transcriptionists and machine shop programmers can all work from anywhere as long as they have a high-speed Internet connection.

This means that the communities of the Northwoods can attract workers who want the quality of life that we enjoy with the lakes, forests and ski hills, while earning a living.  And not just a living wage, but often six-figure wages.

In turn, these workers spend their money locally by purchasing vehicles, dining out, purchasing hardware and outdoor gear -- all with sales tax implications.  And don't forget about the property taxes that are generated in high-value homes.

It doesn't take a great deal of imagination to see into the future and envision our beautiful communities filled with at-home workers raising families and volunteering in our communities.  That picture looks very bright, but it takes excellent Internet service to make it happen.

How can SonicNet help you achieve your goals in the Northwoods?  Let's see if we can help you work and play in this beautiful place we call home.
